In early October I had the chance to visit Zion National Park again, tagging along with my wife on a work trip of hers to Arizona and Utah.
These photos were taken in the mid to late afternoon as we hiked the Angel's Landing trail. I'd done the complete trail myself once before, but on this day we stopped short of the peak just after Scout Lookout. It was a hot day, we didn't have as much water as we probably should have, and the limited staff in the park due to the government shutdown made us feel like rescue services, should we need them, would be likely delayed. The risk was not worth the reward, and I think my photos show that we saw more than enough beauty that day anyhow.
On this trip I took many photos in color, but utimately I felt the monochrome photos with intense shadows were the most powerful. For me, they capture the timeless awesome power of the landscape more succinctly this way.
